SPOKANE, Wash. — A house was saved from burning down after an outbuilding nearby caught fire Monday morning in an area between Airway Heights and Spokane, south of Riverside State Park.
Fire crews from Spokane and Airway Heights were called to a property on Old Trails Rd. near Marchand Rd. around 10:00 a.m. Monday. When they arrived, they saw thick, black smoke billowing into the sky. A shop near a house was engulfed.
Firefighters had to block off both directions of Old Trails Rd. for a few hours, to allow firefighting equipment onto the property. Neighbors in the area reported hearing explosions, which may have been from propane tanks near the shop.
No one was hurt, and firefighters were able to put the flames out eventually. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
