Firefighters Battle North Spokane House Fire

SPOKANE — Firefighters have knocked down a house fire at 5727 N. Calispel near Franklin Park in North Spokane.

Flames were visible as soon as crews got on scene of what appeared at first to be a bedroom fire. However, witnesses described hearing a loud noise and seeing smoke and flames at the back of the house, leading some neighbors to believe that an object exploded in the backyard.

Eight units responded to the home, a one-family wood structure near the corner of Columbia and Calispel, shortly after 10 a.m. By 10:30, the fire was still smoldering, but the flames appeared to be knocked down.

Nobody was injured in the fire, however one house cat that was inside the home died in the blaze.
