Fans proud of EWU Eagles despite loss

CHENEY, Wash. — Fans across the region mourned Eastern Washington’s loss to Georgetown on Friday.
The day started with high hopes as the Eastern Eagles were picked by many to upset the Hoyas.
At Wild Bill’s Long Bar in downtown Cheney, the cheers came loud and often throughout the first half as Eastern shot the ball well early, and fans we’re still optimistic about the Eagles chances.
“They came out shooting the ball well. Need to get those defensive rebounds. Can’t let the other team rebound the ball like that,” said fan Brice Williams.
The second half was a different story.
Cheers were replaced with silence and groans at the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity as Eastern continued to slip and eventually lost the game 74 – 84.
“Yeah, it’s unfortunate, but we’ll do better next year,” said Beta member Dominic Simonelli.
Most fans said they’re still grateful that Eastern made it to the NCAA tournament, and look forward to cheering on Gonzaga.
