Extreme Team Continues With Red Cross

SPOKANE – The KXLY4 Extreme Team is continuing to help renovate the headquarters of the American Red Cross into a building that matches the importance of the organization.

The mission statement of the Red Cross is simple. It will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

That’s what they do in the Inland Northwest, helping during residential fires, health and safety and many other services.

But their 30-year old building wasn’t offering the comforts that many of these families and victims needed.

“We have people who are in need of emergency assistance, people who are having really intimate life altering problems,” says Thomas Stredwick, Public Affairs Officer for the Inland Northwest Chapter, “and our facility that we are meeting with these people in didn’t foster an environment that is welcoming.”

So, on Tuesday, the Extreme Team kicked off the makeover. They were taping off walls, painting and tearing out carpeting, all to get ready for the next step of improving the building.

On Wednesday, the emphasis was on the floors. New carpet was laid, and tile was laid all day, and was expected to be laid for much of the evening. A leak in th roof was also fixed, as the team patched up the hole.
