Extended Family Plays For The Kids

SPOKANE — One of the great things about Hoopfest is how many families play together. Moms and dads, brothers and sisters, even a few grandparents get in on the action. There are also extended families playing together, even under some unusual circumstances.

Janie Smith showed up to watch a team that was made up of her two sons, her husband, and her ex-husband. The two dads say they get along great, and that’s important to retain a relationship.

It’s a way to show the kids that they are the most important thing in their lives.

“Yeah, we golf, we get along; He’s a good step-dad to the boys, the boys love him. We’re just real good people,” said Al Smith, the boys’ father.

The family said that even though their marriage didn’t work, it’s important to show the boys that mom and dad can still be kind to one another and they can still remain friends.
