SPOKANE, Wash. — Residents in North and South Spokane who experienced power outages Monday said they were frustrated with the lack of notice. With another round of outages planned Tuesday, customers have more time to prepare.

Avista laid out the following list of tasks to be checked off prior to the planned outage:

  • Know where your electric equipment is in your home
  • Keep the following emergency supplies in one place:
    • Flashlights with fresh batteries
    • Portable, battery-powered radio
    • Wind-up or battery-powered clock
    • Water and nonperishable food
    • Manual can opener
    • Non-cordless phone to plug in during outages, or a cell phone with battery back-up
  • Maintain fire alarm batteries
  • Install surge protectors
  • Know the operating requirements of your gas appliances
  • Prepare your home medical equipment

Customers should also be sure to keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed, and buy additional ice if needed.
