Excessive Heat Warning: unparalleled stretch of hot, dry weather underway – Kris
Brace yourself for another jump in temperatures for the weekend. However, the peak of our historic heatwave is still a couple of days away. On Saturday, expect sunny skies, light winds and a high of 100°. That will tie our record for the day. Triple digit days are extremely rare in June in Spokane, but that’s just the beginning. Sunday will be a little hotter: 102°. That will also tie the daily record. An EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING is already in effect for the region and continues through Thursday.
The heatwave will unleash its fury at the beginning of the workweek. 108° is the forecasted high for both Monday and Tuesday. That will tie the all-time record high for Spokane set back in 1961. It will also break the all-time June record of 105° set back in 2015 on Hoopfest weekend. There are many other records that will be broken next week; the record number of consecutive 100°+ days, the record number of 100°+ in a calendar year, plus DOZENS of daily records and records of high overnight lows! There’s no clear indication at this point of when the triple-digit heat will break, but it looks like it will stick around through the 4th of July weekend.
