Ex-Officer Convicted In Pregnant Woman’s Death
CANTON, Ohio (AP) — A former Ohio police officer could now face the death penalty after being convicted of killing his pregnant girlfriend.
A jury handed down its verdict Friday. Bobby Cutts was found guilty of murder in the death of Jessie Davis and of aggravated murder in the death of her unborn child. The aggravated murder count carries a possible death sentence.
Cutts had told the court that he accidentally killed Davis with a blow to the throat during an argument, and, in panic, dumped her body in a park.
Prosecutors say Cutts killed Davis to get out of paying child support for a fourth child. Investigators also found the couple’s 2-year-old son at home alone. The toddler gave authorities their first clues in Davis’ disappearance when he said, “Mommy’s in the rug,” and “Daddy’s mad.”
Cutts was also convicted of abuse of a corpse, burglary and child endangering.
