EWU prepares to kick off college football at the Inferno

The Eastern Washington University Eagles kick off the college football season for the entire country on Saturday at Roos Field, and a game this big takes a lot of preparation.

To put the scale of the game into perspective, EWU usually reserves 70 parking spots for media on games day. At Saturday’s game, there will be that many spots for ESPN alone. In all, the school has reserved 157 spots for media members.

Thousands of yards of cable are running along the field in every direction to bring The Inferno in to millions of homes. It’s a games that is both a economic boost for the Spokane area, and name maker for Eastern.

“It’s just a tremendous opportunity for the university, and really Cheney and greater Spokane to highlight this region,” said Bill Chaves, EWU Athletic Director. “The community has been outstanding. We can’t be any more thankful, but to have ESPN, the mother ship, here, 100 million homes, should be a lot of fun on Saturday.”

The fun kicks off with festivities in downtown Spokane on Friday night. Tailgating begins Saturday morning in Cheney at 8:30 am, and kick off to the sold out game at Roos Field is 12:30 pm.
