EWU hopes to avoid another protest as anti-abortion advocates arrive on campus
CHENEY, Wash. — Two anti-abortion advocates made their way to Eastern Washington University on Wednesday, prompting a counter-protest from some students.
Those students gathered at the Pence Union Building on campus, where the university’s student body president encouraged them to peacefully exercise their right to free speech in a safe environment.
On November 7, a protest erupted at the university when students reacted to conservative religious activists.
At the time, two students alleged they were spit on and grabbed inappropriately and one religious activist was arrested for fourth-degree assault.

When the activists returned, EWU “respectfully allowed the anti-abortion advocates” on campus, according to a university spokesperson, but students were encouraged to avoid confrontation and ignore them.
