ESPN: WSU finalizing deal with Jeff Schmedding to become new defensive coordinator
PULLMAN, Wash. — ESPN’s Pete Thamel is reporting that Washington State is finalizing a deal to hire Jeff Schmedding as their new defensive coordinator.
Schmedding has routes to the Inland Northwest. He graduated from Eastern Washington University, where he started out as a graduate assistant before moving his way up to defensive coordinator in 2015. He helped Eastern win the FCS championship in 2010.
In 2019, he was hired to become the defensive coordinator for Boise State. When then-head coach Bryan Harsin became the head coach of Auburn, he took Schmedding with him, serving as Harsin’s linebackers coach.
Schmedding spent 2022 as the defensive coordinator and assistant head coach for the Tigers.
Head Coach Jake Dickert recently hired Ben Arbuckle as the new offensive coordinator for the Cougs. Former OC Eric Morris is now the head coach at the University of North Texas, and former DC Brian Ward is the defensive coordinator for Arizona State University.
