Electric Cars Popping Up In Mead

MEAD — As high gas prices continue to push drivers toward car-pooling and public transportation, two local men have come up with an alternative to gas, and a way to avoid stopping at the pumps all together.

Beny Hafkamp and his partner Simon Gilchrist are taking traditional cars and turning them into electric cars.

Hafkamp says the cars get 40-50 miles on one charge, which is perfect for a short commute.

The cars run about $20,000 and charge on under a $1 per day.

The two men work out of a garage in Mead.
