Elderly Couple Robbed, Beaten In Their Home

SPOKANE VALLEY — An elderly couple was assaulted and robbed in their Spokane Valley garage Sunday afternoon following an afternoon at the theater.

The victims, both 87-years-old, returned to their home located in the 11100 block of E. 22nd Avenue at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday and pulled into their garage. Seconds later a man kicked down the door, punched the elderly male twice in the face as he was trying to exit the car and then punched the woman and stole her purse.

The stolen purse contained cash, credit cards and other personal financial documents and devices.

Neighbors who witnessed the man kicking down the door came over to investigate, but the man was able to avoid them and hop in a getaway vehicle that sped out of the neighborhood. The Spokane Valley Police Department reports that both victims were traumatized “and only able to give scattered information regarding the attack.”

A neighbor said they witnessed the suspects parking their vehicle in the neighborhood five to ten minutes before the attack. According to the eyewitness, the assaulting male entered the neighborhood in a silver or champagne-colored four-door sedan driven by a white female with shoulder length dark hair.

The man is described as a white male, between 6′ and 6′ 2″ tall in his late 20s or early 30s. He is said to be scruffy and unshaven and was wearing a white and black checkered flannel coat and blue jeans with a medium build and dark hair cut short-to-medium length.

Eyewitnesses also got a good look at the vehicle used in the robbery, which was described as “smaller with a sunroof and a square sticker of some type on the gas cap door. Witnesses guessed the car was a late 90s model and said it had ‘stuff’ stacked in the back seat as if the occupants were living out of it.”

Anyone with any additional information on the robbery or suspects is urged to call Spokane Valley Police immediately at 242-TIPS.
