SPOKANE, Wash. — In January, an eighth grade class at Sacajawea Middle School was handed a big task; help the Spokane Bomb Squad fix their robot.

The class has spent the last few months coming up with a solution to help the robot’s class grip and pick up items. A big problem with the claw was that it could not grip things like door handles, due to its metal on metal composition.

The students chose to make a glove to go over the existing claw to help with grip – and their design worked!

Spokane Police officers said they will absolutely use the gripping glove when out in the field. They plan to tell other bomb squads across the country about the amazing work by these seventh and eighth graders.
