Early Morning Fire Destroys Home
SPOKANE — An early morning fire has destroyed a home in northwest Spokane, displacing one resident.
The fire broke out just before 3 a.m. in a rental home located near the intersection of north Whitehouse Street and west Dalke Avenue. The single occupant of the home escaped the residence without injury.
The Spokane Fire Department responded with three engine companies and a ladder company but upon arrival they saw the house was fully involved and upgraded to a full alarm, calling in an additional engine company for support.
“We were concerned at first that somebody was inside and we were on scene a little over five minutes before we realized the person in the house was out standing in the neighbor’s yard,” Battalion Chief Steve Inman said.
The resident of the home is being assisted by the Red Cross while investigators are searching for the cause of the fire.
