Durant becomes 2nd youngest to 20,000 points

Kevin Durant scored 40 points in the Golden State Warriors’ 125-106 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night, becoming the second-youngest in NBA history to reach 20,000 career points.

The reigning NBA Finals MVP needed 25 points to reach 20,000 points and did so with a pull-up jumper just before halftime, sliding in behind only LeBron James, who reached the career milestone at the age of 28 years and 17 days in January 2013.

Durant did so at 29 years and 103 days.

Reaching the milestone before the age of 30 also lands Durant in an exclusive group that includes not only LeBron and Kobe Bryant, but also Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan.

Durant hasn’t posted an average less than 25 points per game since his his rookie year in 2007-08, when he won Rookie of the Year honors with the Seattle SuperSonics.

Durant, who won his first NBA championship with the Warriors last season, is now one of eight active players to have reached the 20,000-point threshold, joining Dirk Nowitzki, LeBron, Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter, Dwyane Wade, Pau Gasol and Joe Johnson.
