Driver Dies In Monday Morning Collision On I-90

SPOKANE — A fatal two-car collision along westbound I-90 claimed the life of a 44-year-old woman and snarled Monday morning’s commute.

It happened just before 7 a.m. near the Highway 195 exit ramp.

Troopers say the woman, identified as Laura Syhlman-Annal, was westbound on I-90 in the center lane while crossing the Latah Creek Bridge. She veered left, then right then back left again before becoming broadside and stopping in the left lane of the freeway.

A car in the left lane hit Syhlman-Annal’s Mustang in the driver’s side of the car, killing her.

The driver of the oncoming car said he had no time to react to the stopped car on the freeway. He was taken to Deaconess Medical Center with minor injuries.

Traffic was backed up for two hours following the fatal collision with only one lane of traffic getting by. The line of cars reached the Hamilton St. exit at one point, nearly three miles from the scene of the accident.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
