Driver cited for speeding takes off, hits 142 mph

A Council Bluffs, Iowa, woman was stopped for speeding on Interstate 80 near North Platte, Nebraska, when she took off and led deputies on a chase, The Associated Press reported.

Deputies first stopped the 31-year-old woman driving a 2018 Ford Mustang around 1 a.m. Saturday for driving 92 mph in a 75 mph zone.

The unnamed driver was cited and told she could leave. She then took off at a high rate of speed, according to the AP report.

Lincoln County deputies reported they chased the driver and measured her speed at 142 mph.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said the driver was arrested on suspicion of willful reckless driving.

Online court records don’t indicate formal charges, the AP report said.
