Doyle Creek Complex Chews Up 1,000 Acres
COLVILLE — Three fires burning along the Stevens – Ferry County line have destroyed two homes and about 1,000 acres in the Doyle Creek Complex.
The Doyle Creek Complex consists of three fires burning near the tiny town of Barstow north of Kettle Falls. This complex has spread resources very thin in north central Washington.
On Thursday high winds snapped trees that knocked down a power line and that sparked the fire that is proving stubborn to contain.
Come Friday morning smoke still filled the valleys around Kettle Falls and normally a fire of this size would draw a large, regional firefighting team in response.
However all five teams are busy elsewhere leaving a skeleton crew on the fire lines hoping to hold the Doyle Creek Complex fire at bay.
