Double Chocolate Brownies

Double Chocolate Brownies

This is a super simple treat and goes equally well with a cup of coffee or a glass or red wine!

Ingredients:

¾ cup un-sifted flour
¼ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
1/ 3 cup butter
¾ cup sugar
2 Tbsp water
12 oz chocolate chips
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
½ cup nuts

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 325.
Combine flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
In a small saucepan combine butter, sugar and water.
Bring just to a boil.
Remove from heat, add 6 oz ( 1 cup ) chocolate chips and vanilla.
Stir until smooth.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well.
Blend in flour mixture.
Stir in remaining chocolate chips and nuts. (And extra flavor, if using – see options)
Spread into greased 9 ” square pan.
Bake 35 minutes at 325.
Cool completely.
Cut into squares.

Extra suggestions:

Use white chocolate chips, mint chocolate chips or espresso chips for the 2nd cup of chips (added with the nuts)
Add 1 Tbsp flavored liquor such as Grand Marnier or orange extract to batter
Substitute 2 Tbsp strong coffee for the water
Glaze with chocolate ganache or icing
Line baking pan with parchment paper for easy removal
