Deputy involved shooting in Spokane Valley

UPDATE: The Officer involved in the incident has been described as Deputy Clay Hilton. Hilton is a member of the K9 Unit with is partner K9 Bane, and is currently assigned to the Spokane Valley Police Department.

Just before 2:00 Monday morning Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies received a call to check on a suicidal man.

Spokane police, who are the lead investigators of the shooting, said the man had sent text messages threatening to harm himself, specifically with a bullet.

When deputies arrived to the home in the 3200 block of south Glenn Ct. in Spokane Valley, the man was holding his gun.

According to police, deputies asked the man to put the gun down numerous times, but he refused causing a deputy to shoot him.

Police said the man’s injuries are non-life threatening and he is recovering in a local hospital.
