Deputy fires at man who shot self in Puyallup
PUYALLUP, Wash. — The Pierce County sheriff’s office says a man fatally shot himself as deputies approached his pickup truck Tuesday morning in the parking lot of a store in the South Hill area of Puyallup.
Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says a deputy who heard the gun shot thought it was directed at officers and fired a shot. Troyer says the fatal shot was self-inflicted. The deputy did not hit the man.
Deputies had responded to a report about 6 a.m. Tuesday that the man in the parking lot was despondent because he was under criminal investigation.
No deputies were hurt.
