Deadly E.coli outbreak linked to romaine lettuce
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating a deadly multi-state outbreak of E. coli infections that may be tied to romaine lettuce.
The CDC says 17 people in 13 states, including in Washington, have gotten E. coli infections.
Five people have been hospitalized, and one person died.
The Public Health Agency of Canada is also reporting more than 40 cases of E. coli linked to exposure to Romaine.
The CDC said it is still trying to identify the source of the contamination, so it can’t recommend whether people should avoid a particular food.
But consumer reports have cautioned consumers to avoid romaine lettuce until the source of the outbreak has been uncovered.
