Crews Quickly Gain Upper Hand On Brush Fire Near Ford
FORD, WASH. — Crews have gained the upper hand on a 15-acre brush fire in Stevens County.
The fire was first reported Friday afternoon near Ford in southern Stevens County. The state Department of Natural Resources immediately sent crews and aircraft to try and control the blaze. Crews from Stevens County also arrived to help fight the fire.
The fire grew to around 15 acres before it was surrounded. But by Friday evening, crews at the scene were telling dispatchers that they had the upper hand. No structures were threatened by the fire.
At one point Highway 231 near the fire had to be closed. Increased traffic was restricting access to the fire. One lane was reopened, and was expected to stay that way though Saturday morning.
Crews hoped to have the fire totally contained sometime Saturday.
