‘It’s bad’: Volunteer fire chief calls Almira School fire the worst he’s seen
ALMIRA, Wash.– A fire at the Almira School Tuesday left it a total loss.
The volunteer fire chief, Denny Pinar, said the fire department got a call at about 4 p.m. for reports of smoke and flames at the corner of the building.
The sheriff’s office said there was nobody in the building when the fire broke out.
The students were not in class because of electrical issues. Pinar said when the power came back on it was tested and there were reports of an electrical smell. However, the cause of the fire has not been determined.
The school district sent out a message saying there would be no classes on Wednesday for students in the middle school/elementary school because of the fire.
Pinar has been a firefighter for 25 years and said this is the biggest fire he’s seen in the district. He said the building is a complete loss.
“It’s bad. But, it’s worse that I couldn’t fix it,” Pinar said.
