Court records: Woman killed by ex-husband strangled, covered in fire accelerant
SPOKANE, Wash – A woman found dead in a burning car on Spokane’s south hill was strangled to death and found covered in fire accelerant, according to court documents.
Spokane Police have arrested Yasir Darraji and charged him for the murder of his ex-wife Ibtihal Darraji.
Police and firefighters responded to the car fire on Thursday near Thornton Murphy Park. It was not until after the fire was put out that they found a woman’s body inside.
The victim was identified by the Spokane County Medical Examiner, who determined the victim’s body and clothes were covered in a fire accelerant.
According to court documents, Ibtihal had expressed concern to her employer about her safety. A friend told police that Ibtihal and Yasir had divorced, but Yasir had grown angry by some of her actions since their separation.
Since their divorce, Yasir had started a new relationship. Acccording to court records, that woman told police Yasir had assaulted her several times before. Documents indicate she told police he strangled her, had threatened to kill her on multiple occasions and had attempted to kill their baby by punching her in the abdomen when she was pregnant.
According to court documents, Yasir threatened his girlfriend by saying he would burn down her mother’s home and kept a two gallon gas can on his back porch.
Yasir will appear in court for his first appearance on Monday. His bond was set at $1 million.
