Cougs Beat Ducks In Eugene 62-53
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The No. 21 Washington State Cougars are exorcising all their Oregon Ducks demons.
Taylor Rochestie scored 21 points and the Cougars ended a 12-game losing streak at Eugene’s McArthur Court with a 62-53 win against the Ducks Saturday night.
Rochestie scored 16 points in the second half, while Derrick Low added 16 points and Aron Baynes scored 12 for the Cougars, who won for the first time in Eugene since 1995.
The Washington State defense, ranked third in the nation, was able to dictate the offensive flow from the start against the top-scoring team in the Pac-10.
Oregon, which made 32 three-pointers and averaged 81.5 points in its two previous games, was held to four three-pointers on 17 attempts and was nearly 26 points below its season scoring average against the Cougars.
Washington State won its 20th game, improving to 20-5 overall. The Cougars are 8-5 in the Pac-10.
Earlier this season, Washington State ended a 13-game losing streak to the Ducks (15-10, 6-7) with a win in Pullman.
Maarty Leunen scored 20 points to lead the Ducks.
