Comeback attempt falls short as the Cougars take a rare home loss

PULLMAN, Wash. — The shorthanded Washington State Cougars had a hard time finding their offense until late in the second half when their comeback attempt against the Cal Bears falls just short in a 66-57 loss at home.

The Cougs were playing without point guard Isaac Bonton and they never looked comfortable on offense trailing the Bears all night. The Cougars scored only 20 points in the first half and went to the locker room down 12 points.

The lead for Cal got bigger in the 2nd half who extended the lead to 17 win under 12 minutes remaining.

That’s when the Cougars started to slowly chip away getting to within 6 on two occassions, but that’s as close as they would get.

The loss was only the fourth for WSU this season, and the first road win of the year for Cal.

Tony Miller led the Cougars on offense with 18 points off the bench. CJ Elleby chipped in with a double-double scoring 13 with 10 rebounds but shot only 4-18 shooting.

The Cougars will try to rebound against Stanford on Sunday at 5pm.
