Colfax Farmer Loses $60K In Hay To Fire
COLFAX — A fire gutted a barn containing approximately $60,000 in alfalfa hay just north of Colfax Tuesday afternoon.
The fire happened on a farm located off Crumbaker Road near Highway 195 just north of Colfax. Firefighters responding to the scene found the barn fully engulfed and the fire spreading to a neighboring field.
By the time firefighters got the blaze under control the barn had been destroyed and two acres of field had been burned.
Preliminary indications point to the fire starting near the top of the barn. Investigators are working to determine the fire’s cause. The remains of the barn are expected to smolder for the next several days.
