Clinton, Obama Downplay Personal Animosity Ahead Of Saturday’s South Carolina Primary
(AP) — Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are trying to tone down a personal feud between them ahead of Saturday’s Democratic presidential primary in South Carolina.
The candidates have both pulled radio ads critical of each other. Obama’s spot had claimed Clinton “will say anything to get elected.”
Clinton sums up the war of words between her and Obama as part of a “heated campaign” and says she and her husband are making a “positive case” for her candidacy.
Blacks are likely to account for a large portion of Saturday’s South Carolina voters. And that’s posed a tricky dilemma for Obama. He’s been openly appealing to black voters while at the same time trying not to get pegged as the “black candidate.”
A new voter survey shows Obama with a slight edge over Clinton in South Carolina, with John Edwards trailing in third place.
