Citizens Bonk Alleged Robber With Six-Pack Of Beer
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Boise police say customers at a convenience store stopped a suspected robber by bonking him over the head with a six-pack of beer and holding him until officers arrived.
Witnesses told police that a man walked into the convenience store, shoved a clerk out of the way and began grabbing money from a till. That’s when an off-duty correction officer who was in the store apparently stepped in, swinging a six-pack of beer bottles and hitting the would-be robber in the head.
Police say that caused the suspect to fall, and the off-duty correction officer and another customer pinned the man until police arrived.
Police say a 46-year-old Boise man was arrested and taken to the Ada County Jail after a stop at the hospital to treat a cut on his head.
Lt. Ron Winegar says police don’t want citizens to risk their own safety, but in this case the two customers acted quickly to — quote — catch a criminal.
