Cheney Public Schools names new superintendent

CHENEY, Wash.– There will be a new leader at Cheney Public Schools starting this summer.
School district officials said Dr. Ben Ferney was selected to be superintendent. The board of directors unanimously voted to offer him a contract that will start July 1, 2022.
Ferney is no stranger to the Inland Northwest. Right now, he’s the superintendent of Valley School District south of Chewelah. He’s been there since 2018.
Before that, he was the principal of Freeman Middle School for five years, assistant principal at Westwood and Cheney Middle Schools for two years, and principal assistant at Bancroft Alternative School for three years.
He also taught high school science for ten years at Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane.
“I am excited to come serve in Cheney Public Schools! The district is moving forward in a positive direction and I look forward to being a part of this great team,” Ferney said in a statement.
A contract will be presented to the School Board of Directors on April 27.
