Change in command at Fairchild Air Force Base

Colonel Brian M. Newberry, Commander of the 92 nd Air Refueling Wing, relinquished command to Col. Charles B. McDaniel during a ceremony at Fairchild Air Force Base Friday afternoon.

Col. Newberry has been in command at Fairchild since 2012.

“As I leave command this week, I would be remiss to not salute Spokane and the Inland Northwest for the support of Airmen for over seven decades,” Col. Newberry wrote in a thank you letter to the Inland Northwest. “I saw it firsthand and will sing your praises, because you deserve it.”

Leadership Spokane announced that Col. Newberry will take over as the Executive Director on August 1.

“We are very excited to have Col. Newberry join Leadership Spokane,” said Rex Fuller, Leadership Spokane Board of Directors. “His experience in leading the men and women under his command will form a foundation for developing the leadership potential of individuals to assume key leadership roles in the greater Spokane region.”

The incoming commander, Col. McDaniel, comes to Fairchild from Kadena Air Base, Japan, where he served as the vice commander of the 18 th Wing, which is the largest combat wing in the U.S. Air Force.

McDaniel is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and received his pilot

s wings in March 1993 at Vance AFB, Oklahoma.
