Car prowler shoots at neighbor who confronted him in north central Spokane
SPOKANE, Wash. — Around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, a neighbor in north central Spokane saw someone prowling a car on their street and confronted the person.
Spokane police said in a release the neighbor then chased the car prowler as he ran away. After about a block, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot at the neighbor. This happened near the 100 block of W. Carlisle Ave., just south of Corbin Park.
No one was hit by the gunshot but the suspect got away. Officers and a K9 searched the area but could not find the man. He’s described as a heavyset white or Hispanic male, approximately 6′ tall with a bald head and clean shaven face. He was wearing a white T-shirt and dark shorts at the time.
Officers said they are working to interview witnesses and process evidence. They’re asking anyone with information about this shooting to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
In the release, Spokane Police Corporal Nick Briggs said officers are thankful the neighbor was not hurt and cautioned citizens about confronting criminals. “Stopping crime requires the communities involvement, and we appreciate this attentive citizen attempting to make a positive impact,” said Briggs. “SPD would also like to remind everyone that confronting criminal suspects is inherently dangerous and situations often change rapidly. Please prioritize your safety when making the difficult decision of whether to intervene in an incident.”
