California man arrested; Oregon teen goes home
SALEM, Ore. — An Oregon teenager has been returned to her family after police found her in the San Francisco Bay Area with a 41-year-old man she’d met online in a chat room.
Police said Thursday the man, Blake Robert Johnston, was jailed in Contra Costa County on an Oregon warrant alleging kidnapping and is expected to be extradited.
Salem police reported her missing Tuesday and being reunited with her family the next morning.
Sgt. Dave Mathers of the Martinez, California, police told the Contra Costa Times that Johnston and girl were in touch online for months, and her mother didn’t know about it.
Police haven’t provided specifics about the online site or the kidnapping charge.
They said federal investigators had been called in to see whether there were other young victims.
