Burger King offers free cheeseburgers to family for terminally ill dog

A family in Ohio is thanking a local Burger King after it offered them free cheeseburgers for their terminally ill dog.
CBS News reports Cody, a 10-year-old boxer-lab mix, was diagnosed with cancer recently and was given only a few months to live. Alec Karcher explained in a tweet that he’s been giving Cody his favorite snack–cheeseburgers–every day to make taking his medications more enjoyable.
During a routine visit to a Toledo location Sunday, an employee asked why he ordered a plain burger. Karcher told the employee Cody’s story, prompting her to ask him to stay put while she spoke with her manager. When she returned, she said Cody could now eat cheeseburgers for free at their location.
“I can’t explain how much that means to us, and my family and I are beyond appreciative,” Karcher wrote in the tweet. He added the employees at the location are “the best around.”
Burger King’s corporate Twitter account responded to Karcher’s tweet, saying “the world needs more kindness and empathy.”
