Boeing Responds To Engineers’ Contract Proposal
SEATTLE — The Boeing Co. responded Wednesday to contract proposals from a union representing engineers and technical workers, and union leaders say they’re disappointed.
Boeing is in the midst of a strike by another union, the Machinists, which represent more than 27,000 production workers. That walkout started Sept. 6.
Contract talks between Boeing and the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace move into high gear in about a month. Most of the nearly 21,000 affected workers live in and around Seattle.
SPEEA (SPEE’-uh) represents about 13,900 scientists, engineers and other professionals who earn an average salary of $82,666 in one unit, plus nearly 6,800 manual writers, technicians and other workers with average pay of $68,157 in another unit. Each unit has its own contract.
