Blessings Under The Bridge looking for new home

SPOKANE, Wash. — A local non-profit dedicated to serving others now needs your help.

Blessings Under The Bridge serves meals to more than 300 homeless men, women and families every Wednesday near I-90 in Spokane.

It makes all those meals out of its 8,000 square foot headquarters along Sprague.

“So, we’ve been here four years now, going on four years and this is like our home,” said Jessica Kovac, founder of Blessings Under The Bridge.

“We’ve really made it our own,” she added.

In February, Kovac said the owner of the building informed them rent would be going up from $1,200/month to $3,300/a month.

“We just said ‘oh my gosh, that would be ridiculous to pay that kind of money.’ We don’t have that kind of money,” said Kovac.

Kovac said Windermere North has graciously paid the rent for the non-profit for the past three years. She said she is incredibly grateful for the support. Even if they could afford the new rent, it would be tough to spend all that money on operational expenses.

“That’s is a huge, huge chunk of money for us. That’s a lot. We could feed a lot of people and serve a lot of people and we can embrace more people,” said Kovac.

Kovac said they have until May 1st to find a new building. She would prefer at least 5,000 square feet with room to build a kitchen. Space must also have the capability to power a commercial walk-in refrigerator and freezer. Kovac also hopes to stay close to downtown Spokane. A GoFundMe page is set up to raise money for the transition into a new space.
