Black bear climbs up tree in North Spokane neighborhood

SPOKANE, Wash. — A black bear found its way up into a tree in a North Spokane neighborhood near Nevada and Lyons.
Fish and Wildlife are en route to the scene where they plan to try to immobilize and relocate the bear.
According to Luers Madonna of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife said the details of what drew the bear to the area are unclear.
“This is typical of other incidents that are happening more this year than usual because of the drought leaving wild food sources scarce for bears now trying to fatten up before hibernating,” Madonna said.
Because of this, Fish and Wildlife recommends taking simple steps to avoid giving bears easy meals from your backyard. This includes holding off on backyard bird feeders until the bears go into hibernation for the winter; usually until at least November.
