Big Bend student brings home Gold from Jiu-Jitsu world championships

MOSES LAKE, Wash. — At first glance Jess Munter is your average college student.

She’s friendly, laid-back and makes jokes about staying up too late to do homework. She finds ways to balance work and school, talks excitedly about her involvement in clubs on campus and her plans to transfer from Big Bend to Western Washington University to study Psychology in the fall.
Real typical college student stuff.

But behind the scenes, Jess is humbly blazing a trail for women in the Brazilian Para Jiu-Jitsu world.
Just last weekend, Jess was in Abu Dhabi competing in the annual World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship. She took first place in her match in the Para Jiu-Jitsu division, beating out Brazilian opponent Quenia Victor.
