Barbara Bush Being Recovering After Heart Surgery
HOUSTON — Officials at a Texas hospital say former first lady Barbara Bush is recovering after heart surgery to replace her aortic valve.
Hospital spokeswoman Gale Smith says Mrs. Bush is being monitored Thursday morning.
Family spokesman Jim McGrath said Bush was up and talking Wednesday night in intensive care after undergoing the 2 1/2-hour operation at The Methodist Hospital.
Smith says there is no change in her condition Thursday morning.
The hospital said the former first lady is expected to be released in seven to 10 days.
