Bail set at $500K for Vancouver man accused in wife’s attack

Bail has been set at $500,000 for a Vancouver man accused of strangling his wife on Sunday.

The Columbian reports Robert Clark appeared in court Tuesday on suspicion of domestic violence assault-strangulation and unlawful imprisonment in connection with the attack in a hotel room.

An affidavit of probable cause says the woman told police that Clark assaulted her for nearly two hours, strangling her, punching and head-butting her. The probable cause document says she told police she was gasping for air and feared that if she lost consciousness, Clark would kill her.

Court records say when Clark moved off of her, the woman grabbed her firearm from her purse and fired two shots near his head to scare him off when he jumped on her again.

On Tuesday, Clark told Judge Daniel Stahnke that the facts presented by the prosecution were not true.
