Ax Attack Leaves Two Dead In Pierce County

GRAHAM, Wash. (AP) — A 52-year-old woman and her daughter were killed in an apparent ax attack near Graham in Pierce County.

The older woman’s 52-year-old husband was booked into jail for investigation of first-degree murder.

Sheriff’s detective Ed Troyer says deputies were dispatched to a home about 10:30 p.m. Friday after a man called 911 to report that he’d just attacked his wife and stepdaughter.

The mother was dead at the scene. A nursing supervisor says the 33-year-old daughter died Saturday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The names of the victims and the arrested man were not immediately available.

The Seattle Times reports that the older woman had worked as a King County corrections officer for more than nine years, and that her daughter has worked at the Renton Police Department for seven years doing front desk work and data entry.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that the older woman and the arrested man married in December 2005, but the woman filed for divorce in late January. A mutual restraining order was in place in that case, and a hearing in the proceedings was scheduled for Thursday.

When police arrived at the scene they found several spray-painted messages, including “I loved my wife” and “Sorry to my friends I could not get help.”
