Avista offers opt-out for new smart meter program

SPOKANE, Wash. — Avista is offering an opt-out to its customers for the new rollout of smart meters in the state of Washington.
While the company encourages customers to consider smart meters, they offer an opt-out to all residential customers who live in a single-family home or multi-plex with four units or less.
To opt out, customers pay a one-time fee of $75, if they choose to opt out 31 days after the smart meter has been installed. Avista has proposed, additionally, to instate a $15 monthly fee to opt-out customers effective December 1. This proposition is still under review from the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission.
Avista asks those wishing to opt-out fill out the application form and submit it one of three ways:
- Send a photo of it or scan it to optout@avistacorp.com
- Mail it to Avista Utilities at 1411 East Mission Avenue, Spokane, WA 99202
- Fax it at 509-777-9650
