At Least 3 Iraqis Killed In US Raid North Of Baghdad

BAGHDAD (AP) — U.S. and Iraqi officials say at least three Iraqis were killed and a child was hurt after American soldiers stormed a one-room house north of Baghdad.

It’s the second time in as many days the U.S. is admitting involvement in civilian deaths. Monday, the military said it had accidentally killed nine Iraqi civilians in an airstrike.

Tuesday, Iraqi police say a couple and their 19-year-old son, who is said to be a member of Sunni fighters partnering with the U.S., were shot in their beds.

The U.S. military says soldiers came under fire while entering the building. It says the soldiers shot dead two men inside, but that it’s not clear who shot the woman and injured the child. An investigation is underway.

The head of Adwar’s Awakening Council says he can explain the discrepancies in the accounts. He claims gunmen were positioned near the house and they opened fire on the Americans, who returned fire.
