At Least 10 Dead In Car Bombing At US Embassy In Yemen

SAN’A, Yemen — The U.S Embassy in Yemen says Wednesday’s attack outside the embassy gates consisted of a car bomb and several “secondary explosions.”

No Americans are reported hurt, but at least 10 people died — Yemeni guards and civilians.

A Yemeni official says there were two car bombs, along with heavy gunfire.

The embassy spokesman says several nearby homes were damaged, but couldn’t say if the embassy itself was damaged.

Al-Qaida is active in Yemen despite government efforts to destroy it. And the embassy has been a target of militants at least four times since 2003.

The most recent attack happened in March when mortar rounds crashed into a girls’ school next door, killing a Yemeni security guard and wounding more than a dozen girls.
