AMR organizes flash mob at River Park Square

The main floor of River Park Square was filled with dancers, police officers, firefighters and paramedics all dancing to a routine set to “Stayin’ Alive” Sunday, as part of a flash mob organized by Spokane American Medical Response to bring awareness to the importance of hands-only CPR.

Paramedic Brandy Tarala said she spent six months organizing the flash mob. She said members of the Spokane Fire Department, Spokane Police Department and AMR joined in on the dance choreographed by the North Central Dance Team. Tarala said hands-only is a simple process — and hopes the flash mob helped spread that message.

“It’s scary to people who don’t know how to do it and are not in the health field, so by learning just hands-only compressions, you don’t have to do anything else,” Tarala said. “People are not as afraid to approach it, so it’s so exciting and people are coming out neurologically in tact and that’s wonderful. So the more people that know it, the better it is.”

Tarala said AMR teaches CPR regularly. To learn how you can get involved, click here.
