Alley Garbage Pickup Returns To North Spokane
SPOKANE — The City of Spokane is reinstating alley garbage pickup after numerous complaints from customers who had to drag their garbage to the street.
Mayor Mary Verner made the announcement Monday and says a new automatic truck designed for alleys are efficient enough to start collecting garbage from alleys again.
“We are implementing a change that just makes sense. We asked our citizens what works for them, found a cost-effective way to improve service and took action,” Verner said.
The alley service was halted for about 2,500 City Solid Waste customers in North Spokane in May of 2007.
The two new trucks won’t go into service until fall, but alley garbage pickup will be restored the week of September 15.
