Alaska Airlines suspends change, cancellation fees through coronavirus uncertainty
SEATTLE, Wash. — Alaska Airlines has suspended change and cancellation fees for fliers who decide not to travel due to coronavirus concerns.
The new policy went into effect on Thursday and will continue through March 12, 2020.
A release from the airline said travelers who book prior to March 12 and then decide by that date to change or cancel their trip, will receive full travel credit to fly with the airline at another time. The credit must be used within one year from its issuance.
“We understand that information about the coronavirus is creating confusion and anxiety for some. Our first goal is to keep our guests safe, and offer peace of mind when it comes to flying with us,” said Andrew Harrison, executive vice president and chief commercial officer. “So, through this period, if you need to change your plans after booking a flight, we’ll work with you on new arrangements and you won’t have to worry about any change or cancellation fees.”
The policy applies to all fares, including Saver Fares, which typically do not allow for any changes or cancellations.
