Alabama tops final AP college football poll

Not surprisingly, Alabama found itself atop the final Associated Press college football poll of the season.

The “other” national champion, unbeaten University of Central Florida, finished in sixth place.

The Crimson Tide beat the Georgia Bulldogs 26-23 in overtime Monday night to claim the College Football Playoff national championship. As a result, they received 57 of 61 first-place votes in the poll.

The other four first-place votes went to UCF after the Knights beat Auburn 34-27 in the Peach Bowl to put the finishing touches on a 13-0 season.

UCF has claimed their own national championship, holding a parade at Disney World, handing out trophies and promising to raise a banner at their home stadium next season.

After its loss to Alabama in the title game, Georgia finished second in the AP poll, followed by Oklahoma and Clemson, which both lost in the CFP semifinals, and then Ohio State in fifth place.

The 13-1 Wisconsin Badgers, whose only loss came to Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game, finished in seventh place after beating Miami in the Orange Bowl.
